AWWI and NWCC Co-Host Wind-Wildlife Research Webinars

The American Wind Wildlife Institute (AWWI) and the National Wind Coordinating Collaborative (NWCC) Wildlife Workgroup are co-hosting three Webinars this fall to present the latest in wind-wildlife research.

The first Webinar, held October 18, was moderated by AWWI Director of Research and Evaluation Dr. Taber Allison and featured two presentations.  The first, on Evaluating large scale collision risks of songbirds and tree-bats with wind turbines using spatial habitat modeling, by Greg Forcey, Normandeau Associates, Inc. presented his recent work on spatial collision models based on biological variables (such as abundance) and environmental variables (such as weather) and improving our understand of how such large-scale variables influence collision risk.   The second presentation, on The impact of energy sprawl on biodiversity and ecosystem services, by Nathan Jones, Colorado State University, discussed preliminary findings from field research comparing the “energy sprawl” impacts of wind energy, oil, and natural gas in similar locations. The goal of the study is to help  assess alternative land use scenarios.

The next Webinars will be held October 31 and November 21, 1-2:30 ET. For more information about the Webinars, including registration, topics, Webinar recordings, and links to presentations, please click here
