About the American Wind Wildlife Institute
The American Wind Wildlife Institute is a science-based organization created
by people who care about renewable energy and the environment: conservationists,
state wildlife officials, wind energy leaders, and scientists. We agree that
wind energy development is a vital and necessary step toward reducing fossil
fuel pollution and addressing climate change. We also know that there is a
shortage of scientific knowledge needed to advance wind development with proper
protection for wildlife and habitat.
The American Wind Wildlife Institute, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is
dedicated to providing and sharing scientific information and tools to advance
wind energy with respect for the environment. AWWI leads a nationwide effort to:
- Proactively address wildlife-wind siting issues on a regional and
national level rather than a project-by-project basis
- Promote needed research to fill knowledge gaps in wind-wildlife science
and best practices for wind farm siting and operations
- Provide a forum to address comprehensive data and resource needs that
require cross-sector cooperation
- Support dissemination of proven research findings, making them
accessible to scientists, regulators, and others who can support further
research and field implementation
